Andrew D Huberman

He has made interesting contributions to the field of understanding the control of the brain over the vision. Andrew has won several awards for his contribution to the field of neuro science including the McKnight Foundation NeuroScience Scholar Award and Pew Charitable Trusts Biomedical Scholar Award.

Andrew D Huberman is also the elected member of National Institutes of Health and also worked on the editorial boards for The Journal of Neuroscience, The Journal of Comparative Neurology and Neural Development. He also runs his podcast named Huberman Lab Podcast that discusses about many science based tools including neuroscience.

Age

Andrew D Huberman was born on the 26th of September 1975 in Palo Alto region of California, US. Andrew D Huberman’s current age is 47 years.

Wiki | Biography

Andrew D Huberman did his primary education from Henry M Gunn High School. He later joined University of California in Santa Barbara to complete his graduation in BA. After that, he completed his MA from the University of California in Berkeley in the year 2000. Apart from that, he also earned a PhD in Neuroscience in the year 2004 from University of California in Davis.

During his college days, Huberman worked in Irving Zucker’s Lab along with other team members on different research projects. As at PhD student, he worked in Barbara Chapman lab and discovered that neural activity is related to wiring of binocular maps in the brain region. He was a researcher at the Ben A Barres lab for nearly five years from 2005 to 2010

Andrew later worked at his own Huberman Lab where he studied genetic tools that affected the visual system. They analyzed Glaucoma patients and found that some neurons in the retina degenerated earlier than expected in such patients. He got good coverage for his work in prominent magazines like Scientific American and Time Magazine..

Family

Andrew D Huberman’s father was a Scientist and he worked with renowned companies in the Silicon Valley. His mother was an author for children’s books. They divorced when Huberman was 13 years old. After that, his father moved to Denmark and Huberman stays with his mother in California. He has however not mentioned the names and other details about his parents and family members.

Girlfriend, Relationships

Andrew D Huberman is still unmarried and his relationship status is officially single. He has mentioned that he had a girlfriend when he was in high school and college but it did not continue further due to various reasons.

Physical Appearance

Andrew D Huberman looks very smart with tall and muscular built. His height is around 6.1 feet and he weighs around 90 kgs. He is very muscular and looks very handsome with short hair and beard with moustache. He is usually seen in formal clothes due to his profession.

Career

Andrew D Huberman started his professional career in research when he was in college. He worked with Marc Breedlove and was a team member of the research project that worked on understanding the effects of early androgen exposure on development of vision. When he was a PhD student, he discovered that the proper wiring of binocular maps in the brain is governed by neural activity and axon guidance molecules.

After starting his own Huberman Laboratory in 2011, he analyzed different genetic tools to understand the visual system. The team worked extensively with glaucoma patients to understand why degeneration starts early in these patients. This is a common condition in many blind people and it is seen in over 70 million people. As of now, there is no cure for this condition.

Huberman later moved to Stanford in 2016 and worked on different methods like using non invasive methods to enhance the regeneration of damaged neurons in the retina. They used visual stimulation for this purpose and it was paired with specific gene therapy. The lab also created a human clinical trial to stimulate regeneration of visual system neurons using virtual reality technology.

In the year 2017, Huberman Lab extended the use of VR platform to understand neural mechanism during fear and anxiety conditions. They collected 360 degree video of fearful situations and used it to understand the mechanism of fear and anxiety. The work was initially published in Current Biology in 2021.

In 2018, Huberman Lab published an interesting article about discovering two mammalian brain circuits which reacted differently to fearful situations. While one promoted anxiety and lead to paralysis, the other invoked a courageous response to a fearful situation. In 2020, Huberman was involved in the project that worked to understand the impact of breathing on nervous system.

Huberman recently started his podcast where he interviews renowned scientists from the field of medicine and technology. He has interviewed top scientists like Alla Crum, David Spiegel, Robert Sapolsky, Lex Fridman, Mathew Walker and others. Apart from that, Huberman is also on the editorial board of Current Biology, Cell Reports, Current Opinion in Neurobiology and The Journal of Neuroscience.

Net Worth

The net worth of Andrew D Huberman is around $2 million. He has worked on various prestigious research projects over the years and is considered one of the top neuroscientists in the country. Apart from that, he also works in the education field and teaches neuro science for college students. He owns a luxury car and a villa in California.
